(1)The time limits that I set, I believe, stayed pretty true to predicted. A few of them went over a minute or two but it was because everyone was actively involved. (2)The fact that I brought ideas that would help others! I was very glad that a couple of the activities brought clarity of the facts for some and interest for future use in their own classes for others. (3)The card game went pretty smooth and it appeared that everyone really enjoyed the laid back activity.
\nNow what I feel could have gone better. (1)When introducing the clock activity, I failed to emphasize that we were looking at how many minutes after the hour. I mentioned it once, but because I didn't say those exact words again, it opened it up for confusion when a time was given directly on the hour. (2)At the beginning, during the reading of Five Little Monkeys, I should have slowed down when it came to the subtraction problems. I had wanted to point out the reverse quality of the equations as we recounted the monkeys back, too. (3)I think I probably should have written down the steps we came up with for the nifty nines for clarity. It would have allowed the couple that didn't get it at first to see the strategy better.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"42392664","body":"Toni, I think your lesson went very well. I enjoyed all your activities. I especially enjoyed the card game. It was fun and challenging at times. I think that our students would love this game, and if there was a problem with using "cards" then maybe the teacher could cut out a rectangle and write a number on it. That way they can still learn and enjoy this game. I also liked the book and I believe our students would like learning subtraction this way. Your idea to write down the steps for nifty nine is a great idea. I had never heard the nine trick either. I knew the pattern of tens going up and ones going down, but it didn't help give the answer like the one the book taught.
