This chapter was about Developing Strategies for Whole-Number Computation. I think that my demo went well.
\nI liked the book and the activity with guessing how many "students" long is a whale. The only thing I would say is that the book might be a little long for younger kids.
\nI wish I would have reminded myself about the virtual manipulatives before class. I looked at many of them Friday and worked on that one for a long time. For some reason my mind just went blank when I got up there, so next time I think I will get on there right before class.
\nI also feel like my book activities went pretty well. It is definitely a lot different when you are doing it in front of the class instead of at home. When I did it last night, it was quick and easy and today I felt like it could have gone smoother. One thing is that I wish my chapter would have had actual activities; I like the activities the chapters have had, so I wish mine would have had some ideas. I also wish I would of done all of my money problems at home, and then I would of known that that one was a little tricky. I just picked the first two last night and did them.
\nThe on-line lesson plan went well. I wished we would have had more time for more people to subtract with "leaping." I think that our students would really enjoy this.
\nAs you can see I think that some activities went well and some could have gone better. I definitely think I learned a lot for next time!","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"42779642","body":"Jessica your demo was fun. I really enjoyed the book too. The book could be useful to teach other subjects if needed. As for your online manipulatives I usually always have trouble with technical components. The directions on the virtual manipulatives sites seemed kinda vague to me. Yet, I think you did well getting through that little hiccup
\nAlso, the ten-bars, single units, and manipulatives in conjuction with the worksheet made a connection with me. I wished I had access to those tools when I was learning the basics of mathematics.","dateCreated":"1316479574","smartDate":"Sep 19, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"WendyWoods","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/WendyWoods","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1322240787\/WendyWoods-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"42783728","body":"aww, thanks Wendy! You shared with us a lot of fun ways to teach this section even with so little to work with.
