I have never been really comfortable with fractions, decimals, and percents; so I was fairly nervous about teaching it. I struggled with which way to teach it. I went back and forth with wether to teach the concept with base ten blocks or apply it to real world situtaions. As you all know, I chose real world situations. I chose to do this because it was closely related to the book I read prior to the lesson. I felt as though the book reading went well because it kind of taught the lesson for me. It was very effective in explaining the relationships between fractions, decimals, and percents. I thought the activities went well, especially the shopping. I should have set aside more time for the matching game. I didn't like how we didn't get to finish that activity. I felt as though the real world situations were effective in teaching the content but I do realize that all children learn differently. When I teach this lesson in my own classroom I will improve by not only teaching real world situations, but also use the base ten blocks. I was a little nervous at first about teaching this lesson, but as it progessed I became more and more comfortable. Overall I feel as though the lesson was a success and I hope everyone enjoyed it!! I think you used a great variety of activities that would appeal to many different learning types within the classroom. I thoroughly enjoyed the shopping activity, as well as the "Best Match" activity. Those were both great ways to get us thinking about conversion between fractions, decimals, and percents. I also really liked the matching virtual manipulative.

I loved the shopping idea as well, this was something that the students will encounter in real world and also something that they can take home and work on with their parents. I liked that you didn't isolate the three concepts, but showed them in each activity you chose. Loved the shopping activity! It was not too overwhelming with clear directions and made the lesson relate to things we do everyday. I was the content leader so I know how lengthy and challenging this chapter was! I think you did a great job. My favorite activity was using the coupons and seeing how much our price was after the discount. This is a great skill to have when shopping. Percents are used in everyday life. \nI absolutely loved your lesson. The book was such a great book to get the concept across and I really enjoyed the shopping activity. It showed us why estimating is an important ability in our daily lives.
