My demo lesson was Chapter 18 Proportional Reasoning and it covered the topic of ratios and proportions. Topics that, as I am sure you all could tell, that I was not very good or comfortable with. If I could choose some words to descibe my performance yesterday i would choose, disappointment and embarrassment. I have never wanted something to end so fast. With my nerves and lack of knowledge, I felt as though I was up rambling on about nothing. I learning alot from this lesson though, not only about ratios and proportions but also that as a teacher, there are going to be times when I have to teach about a topic that you may not be perfect at and that you are going to make mistakes but you just have to learn about the topic, buckle down and step out of your comfort zone, and teach your students. As my students did yesterday, students should not have to be effected by areas where I fall short. If I ever done this lesson again, I would do more research on the topic for myself and allow myself more time to learn the material and I would find more in dept activities in order my students to graps a better understanding and relate to the topic. I have much room for improvement. I guess it is hard to accept failure when you really want to be good at something. You girls were great students while I was having a rough time, I appreciate that!! :)","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"44090789","body":"I think you are way too hard on yourself. You are so comfortable up there in front of the class I wish I could be so at ease. I loved the way you read the book - very engaging. And I loved the book you choose. It was a fun way to think about the topic which can be intimidating for everyone.
\nYou really did do much better than you give yourself credit for. Don't you remember, Dr. Comer waved her magic wand and gave us all the gift of self confidence. Be proud of yourself you did great!","dateCreated":"1318424972","smartDate":"Oct 12, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"weltonaa","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/weltonaa","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1284587601\/weltonaa-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"44127177","body":"Megan, I thought you did wonderful. You are a natural leader and did a great job of keeping the lesson flowing, even when you weren't very sure of yourself. Like Aimee, I loved the book "Counting on Frank." It was super cute! I also really liked the activity on the "Golden Ratio" which was something that was totally new to me!
\nYou did great Megan! :)","dateCreated":"1318454528","smartDate":"Oct 12, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"SLLloyd42","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/SLLloyd42","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1284082571\/SLLloyd42-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"44287742","body":"Megan, you are far too good of a teacher to be hard on yourself. You get in front of the class with such ease and grace that I hope to possess one day. I loved the book you read. You were so enthusiastic while reading it that I forgot where I was and I felt as if I was right there in Frank's house with him! You were great at questioning us throughout your reading to keep our attention, and the DLTA activity was something I never would have thought of using! I really enjoyed the "Golden Ratio" activity, I love finding interesting things out and this was definitely interesting and cool! You did great and always remember that! You are going to be a great teacher because you already possess so many of the great qualities a good teacher has!","dateCreated":"1318630002","smartDate":"Oct 14, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"mwduncan42","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/mwduncan42","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1284227313\/mwduncan42-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"44292110","body":"Megan you got this. We all have our moments. I know I have had many, and you are always there to be positive. So be positive for yourself. You had a hard chapter and you done great. It helped me out a lot with ratios. Like everyone has said don't be so hard on yourself girl.","dateCreated":"1318637276","smartDate":"Oct 14, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"kittst","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/kittst","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1460213667\/kittst-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"44306384","body":"You did great Megan and your students didn't suffer! It's a really tough chapter; everything bleeds together. I always enjoy when you teach because you're so lighthearted and even when you're nervous, you look like you're enjoying yourself. The "golden ratio" is definitely neat and kids will love to prove it wrong. You could have them working their tails off trying and they'd not even know how much math they were actually doing. Wonderful idea integrating the DLTA that Dr. Comer gave us too! It really made us pay attention. Relax, you're a natural.","dateCreated":"1318685725","smartDate":"Oct 15, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"toniszabo","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/toniszabo","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"44468162","body":"I think you do a lot better than you give yourself credit for. It will get easier the longer you teach. I really liked how expressive you were while you read the book for your chapter. It was so cute! I thought you picked good activities.
