I feel like I was well prepared with materials and activities. I really liked my book "It's Probably Penny" by Loreen Leedy. It took a big chunk of time of my lesson and did a really good job of introducing the idea and elements of probability. My activities were very interactive and I was thankful the book had made the activities so hands-on. I feel like I struggled with time during my lesson. Even though I practiced my lesson I only had three "students" then, and it was hard to try and estimate how long it would take for a whole class to do different activities. Due to the lesson being on probability amounts of time for the different activities could vary quite considerably. For example, when students were rolling their dice to try and get all six numbers could have taken a very long time or a very short time considering what students were rolling on their dice. If I were to do the lesson and activities in our class again I would probably cut down the activities that called for twenty repititions and make it only ten repititions. I also had printed off my lesson plan that I had the objectives of each activity listed next to the corresponding activity so that I could make sure to explain the specific attributes of probability corresponding to each activity. When I started doing the activities though, I didn't use my lesson plan and got so caught up that I began to get confused on what topic each activity was demonstrating. So next time I would want to have something that I could reference quickly to make sure I am explaining the right concept with the right activity. Overall I was pleased with my lesson. There are always things that we would do differently if we could do things over and I definitely had things that I would want to improve upon, but I feel for my lesson things went pretty well and I'm glad that I had the chance to teach probability.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"45353432","body":"Meredith, your lesson was amazing! I absolutely loved the monster bucket that tied probability into class discussion and involvement. I thought you did a great job with your activities and especially loved the die rolling activity. It was a great way for students to see probability and really get a grasp on how likely or how often an event can take place.
\nGreat job Meredith! You're going to make an amazing teacher! :)","dateCreated":"1320102540","smartDate":"Oct 31, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"SLLloyd42","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/SLLloyd42","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1284082571\/SLLloyd42-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"45360976","body":"The lesson you shared with us today it was great. I liked how you were using different colored paper to make a simiple disticintion between the lessons. It was a good way to keep everyone on the same lesson. I loved each of your activities, especially the certain, possible, and impossible activity. This really would cause your students to think about each given scenario and than you did good explaining more in dept why something could happen, might happen, or was impossible to happen. Each of your activities were fun but also had an important concept. I also loved the monster bucket :) very cute!!
